The people of Western Australia have done an amazing job working through the COVID 19 isolation period. As we all come out of hibernation and get back to normal day to day living and social routines, remember to be aware of your surroundings, and plan your journey. Below are some helpful safety tips to keep in mind:
- Look up, stay alert, be aware of your surroundings including traffic and people at all times.
- Be committed to your safety which is your responsibility and a priority.
- Think ahead and have a plan which increases safety.
- Listen to, trust and act on your instinct. If something makes you feel unsafe, choose a course of action to maintain your safety.
- Be confident, walk and conduct your activities confidently and with purpose.
- Turn down the volume on your earphones and put your phone away in busy areas and whilst crossing roads.
- Walk in well-lit busy areas if possible.
- Walk with a friend or group where possible.
- If you walk by yourself on a regular basis – vary your route.
- Have someone accompany you to your car.
- Forward plan – how are you going to get home.
- Tell your family, friends, or colleagues your whereabouts, and when you expect to return. If your plans change let them know.
